It’s that time of year again – leaves are changing, the temperature is cooling off, and the scent of pumpkin spice is on everything! Autumn is one of the best seasons on Lake Lanier. The sights are remarkable, and the outdoor air is cozy and relaxed. 2020 has been an interesting year, for sure. Many of our usual activities have been changed, postponed, or canceled altogether, but there’s still no better place you could be than the shores of Lake Lanier. Let’s take a look at some of the ways you can enjoy this wonderful time of the year, no matter how strange and different the year is!
Hiking
As always, North Georgia provides some of the best hiking trails in the nation. Haw Creek Trail is said to be best all the way through October, and features beautiful forestry and the chance to see deer preparing themselves for the winter. For more waterside views, check out Bowmans Island and Lower Ridge Trails, which show off the beauty of the Chattahoochee River and Lake Lanier along a moderate hike. And of course, the classic Buford Dam Trail is a brisk one mile walk with an amazing view of Buford Dam.
Camping
Whether you’re ready to rough it in your own tent, or looking for more of a rustic cabin rental, Lake Lanier offers some amazing opportunities for camping. Stay socially distant from everyone out in the backwoods of Lake Lanier Islands! Just be warned, camping has increased across the country this year as a great family activity that’s safe and outdoors, so be ready to book your site in advance.
Fishing
Hop into a boat, rip off that mask, and breath the fresh forest air as you glide across the water searching for a delicious, fresh caught dinner. Or sit on your dock and see what comes biting in your own backyard. Lake Lanier has some of the best fishing in the region, and stripers, trout, and bass are all popular catches in the early fall.
Dining Al Fresco
A hot meal on a temperate night outside makes any evening fun, relaxed, and cozy. A number of restaurants in the area are offering outdoor seating and takeout, or enjoy a home cooked meal on your own patio overlooking the lake! If you don’t have one, that should really change… call me today and we’ll find you a beautiful lakeside property that will give you a view to die for. You’ll find yourself dining under the stars for most of the year!
Outdoor Movie Night
A fun activity that’s picking up traction in 2020 is setting up an old school drive in theater right in your own backyard! Projectors are affordable, compact, and easy to come by these days, and you can find a pull down screen or simple hang a white sheet outside so you and your family and close friends can have a safe, distanced, shared experience. Pick old classics to share with the kids, or stream new releases without a whole trip to the movie theater!
With such a beautiful region in this incredible climate, autumn in North Georgia is full of outdoor activities that are safe, comfortable, and fun. You’ll forget all about how crazy this year has been, and be so glad that you moved to Lake Lanier! Call me today to find a lakehome or luxury property nearby and set yourself up for adventures like these every year.
