People Cheers Celebrating ChristmasThe holidays are approaching! As November begins to wind down, North Georgia is full of events that are introducing the holiday season. December fills up quickly with friends and family parties, travelling, shopping, and lots and lots of eating, so it’s great to catch these events early to make the most of your holiday season! Let’s take a look at what North Georgia has to offer in 2019.

Lake Lanier Islands

Whether you’re on your own, a romantic couple, a gaggle of friends, or trying to entertain the whole family, you can find an excellent time at Lake Lanier Islands this holiday season. On November 22nd, 2019 the 27th annual Magical Nights of Lights will come to life! This gorgeous spectacle is a 7 mile driving tour of the most dazzling light displays in the southeast.

Seeking something more adventurous? License To Chill Snow Island debuts on the sae day with the longest snow-tubing hill in Georgia! There’s also ice skating, snowball fights, fire pits, and s’mores, this is surely the Winter Wonderland of the south.

Enjoy Thanksgiving but skip all the cooking and cleaning! Lake Lanier is having their annual delicious Thanksgiving Celebration at the Legacy Lodge, where you can indulge on a first class buffet of herb roasted turkey, prime rib, and all the sides you would expect from a turkey day feast! Follow it up with the Nights of Lights, or enjoy a beautiful evening stroll on the nearby trails to walk off that big, delicious meal!

Gainesville, GA

In one of Georgia’s most beloved small cities, Christmas starts early and lights up every corner. On November 23rd is the “Jingle Mingle and Lighting of the Chicken”, a silly, quirky, festive event full of carriage rides, live music, kids’ activities, and fireworks! And don’t miss the signature lighting of the chicken, a 25-foot metal sculpture in downtown Gainesville square!

And of course, you can’t miss the 10th Annual Turkey Trot! On Thanksgiving Day, people of all activity levels, from the casual stroller to the competitive runner, will join in for this 5k/10k/half marathon event. The whole town comes out for this annual tradition – what better way to build up an appetite for everything that’s coming that night!

Cumming, GA

Starting on November 22nd, popular attraction Warbington Farms turns into a magical winter wonderland of its own! Bring the whole family to see magical light displays dancing across trees and through barnyards, including a hayride trough the amazing Field of Lights!

Buford, GA

On Friday the 22nd, Georgia’s own Lucibelle is playing at Twisted Oar, an excellent lakeside restaurant open year round. This musical duo out of Athens, GA offer a unique and beautiful sound you can enjoy over a delicious meal with a gorgeous lakeside view. A perfect way to ease into the weekend and enjoy the upcoming holidays!

Dahlonega, GA

One of Georgia’s most historic towns, Dahlonega, is hosting an old fashioned Christmas kickoff on Friday, November 29th. With carriage rides, carols, food trucks, and a ceremonial lighting of the square and tree, you can launch your Christmas season in the classic style!

This Saturday, November 23rd, take a guided tour through nature trails, along the Etowah river, and through the vineyard itself before a tasting of some of the best wine North Georgia has to offer! 


There’s still two chances left to catch Halcyon’s Groovin’ On The Green! Every Friday night in November, come out to Halcyon, an exciting new mixed use development in Forsyth County, for patio dining, live music, dancing, and outdoor games. Enjoy the nearby hiking trails and then cut loose at an evening party with a variety of meal options from Market Hall!
